What We Say
The cottage used to be part of the original stables and cow shed dating from 1892, and has a rustic, comfortable feel. Wooden furniture and original art works make for a warm setting, while a four-poster double-bed invites morning sleep-ins. A long stoep with a braai is made for lingering lunches or dinners. There is also a shady, enclosed garden.
De Stal Garden Cottage was the stable and cowshed of the old house in 1892 and has since been converted into a rustic self-catering cottage. Set in a historic corner of Riebeek West, De Stal Garden Cottage has a delightfully eccentric farmyard appeal and is the ideal place to unwind or use as your base in the valley.
The cottage is decorated in a lovely, quirky manner and has one bedroom that is furnished with a double bed and has a private bathroom with a shower. The room also opens onto the lovely patio with a view of the garden. The kitchen is equipped with a working antique two-plate stove, a bar fridge, microwave, toaster, kettle, crockery and cooking utensils. Guests can enjoy their meals at the dining table or relax in the lounge which is furnished with a sleeper couch. There is a TV with local channels, a DVD player and a small library of movies; guests can also bring their own or rent from the DVD shop in the main street. The patio is furnished with a four-seater table, a built-in braai and a water feature stocked with goldfish.
Children will enjoy collecting eggs from the hen house and guests are welcome to interact with the friendly resident dogs, but a gate can be closed if you prefer not to. Pets are welcome by prior arrangement and the cottage has its own private entrance with off-street parking. The Groenrivier Function Venue is located within walking distance for those attending a wedding or function there.
