Overview
Springfield Estate rests on the Springfield Farm that has been declared a Provincial Heritage Site, deep within the Agulhas National Park. It is one the southernmost pieces of land on the tip of South Africa.

The surrounding area, Cape Agulhas, known as the strandveld or literally sandy land in Afrikaans due to its sandy soils, is rich with never-ending coast lines, mountains covered with Fynbos and Southern African wildlife.

The original farm house pre-dates 1889 when the farm was formerly registered. It was the home of Lord de Saumarez, the English lord memorialized in Dalene Matthees novel Driftwood. A collection of three quaint old renovated thatch cottages, which can be rented individually, circle the English baronial hall.

"Wide open spaces"

"Springfield Farms is a great place to stay if visiting Cape Agulhas and the environs. It was so peaceful and the natural spaces so open that my family really did not want to leave.Far from touristy clutter it is located right in the middle of park and farmlands where you can see Ostrich and other domestic and wild animals. There is an old salt pan nearby, some easy hikes, and a nearby beach within a very short drive. You can easily reach the surrounding towns by dirt and tarred roads.Originally a farm years ago, it is currently run by Piet and his wife Marie who were very friendly. Piet offers stories and a tour if you ask him. Our lodgings were very unpretentious and rustic. Though a bit rough around the edges it was an ample amount of space for 3 kids and a dog.I would say for those looking for something refined or cute they may be disappointed. I get the impression that they dont make too much of a fuss over detail, so if thats your thing then it may not be for you. Also it would have been great to have a fireplace a bigger stove, though it is possible that the other spaces had better amenities.Otherwise that didn't dampen the feeling of serenity, so all in all I would recommend it.-Ben"
