The Magalies Wildlife Sanctuary is just one and half hours drive from Pretoria and Johannesburg, making it ideal for a weekend getaway.

The Magalies Wildlife Sanctuary is set on an 84-hectare citrus farm that offers the unique opportunity to spot and engage with various animals at the sanctuary including meerkats, mongooses, monkeys, bushbabies, tortoises, baboons, small buck, jackals, and caracals as well as plenty of different bird species.

"Great time to relax, and just be"

"We found our stay very warm and welcoming. All the amenities were great, safe and functional. The bath for two was super hot, took a while to fill but there was no rush.Unfortunately there wasn't a fridge but the cooler box and ice supplied was more than enough. It rained the evening we were there, but no drips or floods in the cabin or lounge. We were awoken by jackel calls and dogs but weren't fussed and the greeting by the 8 horses, 20 mongoose, 3 sheepdogs and caracole was an amazing experience. Don't feed the monkeys. We loved it and already shared our experiences with friends, who can't wait to come. Happy 2014!"

"Thaba Apie is rustic, different and "a get away from it all" place, even though it is not far from Jhb and a number of amenities. If you enjoy nature and animals, this is the place to go. It is really good for the soul to spend some time at Thaba Apie. Thank you!"
